Because of a major incident at the company, it got handed down by our legal department that we cannot reimage any machine until such time they say it is okay to do so. Even though only about 1% of the people in the company save files to the C drive and those that do will do it on laptops, which leads to another problem as you will see at the end.
I got at least 3 machines I HAVE to reimage. One of the dumber decisions was to put this add-on software that works with another piece of software that ties into another piece. However, the addon has no install directory and it is not listed in add/remove programs. All previous attempts to install over it failed, especially when the older version is already there. To make matters worse, I may have to do it for more than just the 3 machines.
Oh, and did I mention of the 3 machines I have right now that 2 are laptops and our supply of regular size laptops is running out because the model was discontinued and we do not have the replacement model yet? |

Hey, hard drives are cheap as dirt. Just replace those and then you can reimage until the cows come home. Store the old drives with the relevant info (who they used to belong to) and it probably wouldn't even fill up a desk drawer. _________________ In order to solve your problem, I must use my brain.

Roger that. Might be easier to push through a request for a dozen hard drives than for a dozen new machines. _________________ Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam |

| While that is possible and we could do that, the answer is still no. They want the whole computer put aside. Maybe we should store it in their offices. |

Can't even just take an image of the drive for them? Dang lawyers. _________________ "The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt."

White Mutiny.
Do exactly what they say, let them know what will happen and do it until you run out of machines. Just let everyone know what will happen before hand.
This isn't technically a full white mutiny as you will inform them of the consequences of their decision, but it's safer this way.
Once the department runs out of replacements let them know that fact and ask for instructions as high up the chain of command as you can reasonably reach. Don't tell the users why you are out of machines, jsut tell them that recent demand has outstripped supply.
Don't waste brain cells on trying to fix the problem. This is a "not my job" issue. It is your job to tell them what will happen, and then tell them again when it actually happens. _________________ Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam |
